Our Vision

Our vision is to raise the level of consciousness of our brothers and sisters to the rich values of the diverse cultures in the Secular Franciscan Order in the United States.

Our Mission

Inspired by our Secular Franciscan charism, the Multicultural Committee seeks to educate and increase sensitivity among our SFO servant leaders at all levels concerning the value of multicultural richness and diversity in our sisters and brothers.

Our Goals

Today we face the challenge of proclaiming the Good News of our salvation and of building up the Kingdom of God in the context of an ethnically diverse society. To respond more effectively to this challenge our Committee has agreed upon the following goals:

  1. To motivate the SFO servant leadership to animate and guide the local fraternities in the celebration of their multicultural diversity.
  2. To foster the multicultural implementation of our mission that can be promoted by the SFO formators of initial and ongoing formation, with the assistance of this Committee as needed.
  3. To educate ourselves and our fellow Secular Franciscans towards the realization of a Gospel vision of cultural diversity by drawing guidance and inspiration from the Sacred Scriptures, Church teaching, the SFO Rule, the Franciscan tradition (particularly the SFO Rule, the Constitutions, Ritual and the National Statutes) and appropriate contemporary resources.
  4. To encourage the development of ongoing dialogue among our leaders and throughout the SFO fraternity which will deepen our experience of community and help us to be "joyful and ready to place ourselves on an equal basis with" one another (SFO Rule, Art. 13).
